One Watch To Rule Them All
It's the watch your dad had in 1989. It is cool for this fact because you are now the same age as your dad in 1989. You never understood this basic watch in your younger years since you always wanted a Rolex or Omega. You always wanted a Lamborghini or Ferrari too but guess what? You are older and drive a paid off
Camry and just like that Camry this little beauty is the most practical thing ever and can probably survive WWIII. It can get beat up, neglected, you can leave it on at the neighbor's pool party and it will always be there to tell you happily that lunch time is in 10 minutes.Yeah 10 minutes can you believe that the morning went so quick for a Tuesday? Also remember it is now March. Yeah February kinda flew by right? It is a certain confidence that lets the world know you aren't compensating for any lack of character. It's not even solar. Keep of the light button and the battery will last 11 years no problem but, you will probably drop it on a cruse before then and have a archaeologist in 3789 C.E. find it in the now drained ocean and think it is a ancient symbol of our god 'Casio'. Yeah it is tougher than nails. And yes button 'A' is recessed more than the other buttons so your grubby mitts won't accidentally hit it and engage the 'change time' mode and eff up you perfectly synced quartz Feng Shui. Casio has got you bro.

Survived Army Basic Training and Afghanistan
When I joined the US Army we were given a cheap army branded watch to use. It sucked. It didn't survive a week. I wrote home and weeks later got what I asked for. A Casio g shock, the same model the I saw many others in my platoon use. It survived thousands of push-ups on pavement, dirt, rocks. It survived low crawling hundreds of meters through thick Georgia brush. It survived all the mud, sweat and moisture and bangs the army could throw at it. Now it's in Afghanistan with me. It's comfortable to keep under the cuff of my OCP uniform. You will forget it's even there. I though about swapping the band out with a nicer one but it's really not needed, it's durable and comfortable. I never take it off, wear it in the shower and never had an issue. Before deploying I swam in the ocean with it and worked fine. If you need a watch that can survive any life style this is the one.
Tough Mudder Approved!
Still own this watch, still wear it daily. I just completed Tough Mudder wearing this and it survived! Did not fall off, did not bother me and still working.
Original Review:
I am writing this review over a year after owning this watch. I wear this watch everywhere I am not in need of my nicer watch, including work. Very durable, have dropped it and banged it many times. This watch truly lives up to its "G-Shock" name as it it the longest lasting cheaper watch I've ever owned. Defiantly recommend
Just buy it and solve your watch problem for the next 20 years
My G Shock finally died. I bought it in SOI in the Marines in 1998. It was cheap, you could see the time in the dark, and it had an alarm. This was all the functions I ever used during my 15 years in the infantry. I had to change the battery twice in 20 years. I also replaced the band in 2005. My G shock survived brutal training, a billion field ops, and two tours to Afghanistan and Iraq each. It went to the deserts of Africa to the snows of Alaska. It went to the jungles of Thailand to Death Valley. It's was dunked in every ocean on earth except the arctic ocean, along with most of the great lakes. My old rottwieler chewed on it, as did my two dobermans. I never take took it off.
Great Watch !
I just received this watch today. It is a gift for my 11 year old Grandson. I am thrilled with the quality of this . You can buy a square Casio for as low as around $10.00, but they are other versions and not G-shocks. I am sure they are all good value for the money. I just wanted him to have a G-shock !! I've just become interested in these square G-shocks a few weeks ago. Kind of a nostalgia type thing. I saw these around when I was in my late teens and '20's, but never owned one until now. I just spent some major $$ here on Amazon for a GW-5000-1JF and another with the negative display model GW-5510-1BJF. MY POINT BEING ::: You don't have to blow your income tax refund like I just did and get the solar/atomic bells & whistles ones.. This $46.00 G-shock is a great ,quality, nice looking watch!! From a foot away you cannot tell the difference between this watch and the much, much more expensive GW-5000. You'll change a battery every few years but they are an easy job.
One of the best watches out there!
The majority of my small watch collection consists of analog automatics (Seiko, Omega, Hamilton) so I didn't think I would ever go back to wearing a digital quartz Casio, but after seeing a fresh one on my friend's wrist and rewatching a few classic 90's action flicks, I started looking around online and kept gravitating towards this one.
After wearing it for a while I have to say it is simply amazing. If you don't care about price or status with your watches and are more about pragmatism and great functional design, it's hard to beat this watch. It's like the Glock 17 of watches. It knows exactly what it is and what it's supposed to do and just does it faithfully. Also, after wearing automatics for so long I can't help but be blown away by the accuracy of this thing.
I also like how this particular model is more moderately sized compared to most other G Shocks, so it fits under shirt cuffs easily. If you're on the fence about getting one I'd say just take the plunge - the price is unreal for what you get and you never know when you'll need a low-key near indestructible watch on a job or a trip.
